Starfish robot has the ability to picture itself in different situations and configurations, and then alter its actions based on what it thinks will work best.

    Reminds me of a book I read which was trying to predict the future of true robotics and AI. They foresaw a stick-like robot with pairs of arms at the ends. At the end of each arm was a pair of smaller arms, and so on, ad naseum. The robot could effectively take on any shape imaginable (legs, a lock pick, a wrench, … ;)
